The Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University (CMU), through the Chiang Mai International Engineering School, in collaboration with Hanbat National University (HBNU), Republic of Korea, successfully organized the CMU x HBNU International Capstone Project 2025 from 24–27 November 2025 at the SMC Hub, Faculty of Engineering, CMU. The event reflects the strong and enduring academic partnership between the both institutions, now entering its sixth consecutive year.
This year’s project began with a visit to HBNU by CMU faculty members and students from 14–20 September 2025, where students were grouped and assigned joint capstone topics under the theme “Smart and Green Communities”, aimed at developing innovative ideas for sustainable societal and environmental solutions. During the following weeks, students from both universities continued to collaborate online, refining their projects before gathering once again in Chiang Mai for the final presentations.
The atmosphere throughout the event was warm and engaging. The opening ceremony, held on 25 November 2025, was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thongchai Fongsamootr, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, who warmly welcomed the HBNU delegation and expressed his appreciation for the continuously growing collaboration. Throughout the program, students exchanged academic perspectives and received valuable guidance from faculty members of both universities. In addition to academic activities, participants also experienced the natural beauty of Chiang Mai, including watching the first light of dawn above the sea of mist at Doi Inthanon and trekking along the Kew Mae Pan nature trail, challenging yet rewarding experiences that strengthened friendships across cultures.
The program concluded on 27 November 2025 with a closing ceremony led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Chatchawan Chaichana, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, who announced the results of the project presentations.
