CMU Engineering Students Join International AIoT Workshop Series in Finland
Computer Engineering, CMU students have successfully participated in the first two-week international AIoT (Artificial Intelligence + Internet of Things) workshop hosted by the University of Helsinki, Finland. This activity marks the launch of an international workshop series collaboratively organized by partner universities in three countries: the University of Helsinki (Finland), Singapore Management University (Singapore), and Chiang Mai University (Thailand).
This project is led by Principal Investigators from each institution, including Prof. Petteri Nurmi (University of Helsinki), Asst. Prof. Niko Mäkitalo (University of Jyväskylä), Assoc. Prof. Santi Phithakkitnukoon (Chiang Mai University), and Prof. Archan Misra (Singapore Management University).
During the workshop, students from participating universities worked in multidisciplinary teams to develop AIoT prototypes using sensors, actuators, embedded systems, and AI-based tools. Highlighted projects included an energy-efficient smart lighting system utilizing thermal imaging and Raspberry Pi, and a facial-recognition smart door prototype demonstrating real-world AIoT applications.
The workshop series will continue with a one-week program at Singapore Management University in January 2026, followed by a one-week workshop hosted by the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, in February 2026.
This initiative reflects CMU Engineering’s commitment to global collaboration, experiential learning, and preparing students for advancing technologies in AI, IoT, and smart system development.
