The Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, led by Associate Professor Dr. Thongchai Fongsamootr, Dean, is pleased to participate in the SME 5.0 Annual Meeting 2026 at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, under the project “SME 5.0: A Strategic Roadmap Towards the Next Level of Intelligent, Sustainable and Human-Centred SMEs” Funded by European Union’s Horizon under the framework of The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (Rise)

The meeting brought together professors, researchers, and project partners from universities across Europe and many other countries to exchange ideas, share project progress, and strengthen international collaboration. One of the highlights was the opportunity to present and discuss the collaborative book developed jointly by the consortium members.

We also had productive discussions on future research collaborations and follow-up project proposals, demonstrating the strong potential of international partnerships in driving innovation and sustainable development for SMEs. In addition, the lab visits and industry-related activities provided valuable insights into emerging technologies and practical applications for the future of human-centred SMEs.

Projects like SME 5.0 clearly show the importance of international collaboration among universities, researchers, and industry partners. I truly believe that initiatives like this should continue in the future to foster innovation, academic exchange, and long-term global partnerships.
