Engineering CMU Welcomes Delegation from Dalian University of Technologyto Exchange Research Insights and Discuss Future Academic Collaboration
On July 21, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, led by Associate Professor Dr. Thongchai Fongsamootr, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, together with Assistant Professor Dr. Korrakot Yaibuathet Tippayawong, Associate Dean, and representatives from relevant departments, welcomed a delegation from Dalian University of Technology (DUT), People’s Republic of China. The meeting was held at Gear Room 201, Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University.
Representatives from the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, included:
- Assistant Professor Dr. Preeda Pichayapan, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering
- Professor Dr. Nakorn Tippayawong, Distinguished Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering
- Associate Professor Dr. Yuttana Mona, Department of Mechanical Engineering
- Associate Professor Dr. Attakorn Asanakham, Department of Mechanical Engineering
- Researchers from the MARVEL Laboratory (Modeling and Simulation in Applied Mechanics Research – Virtual Engineering Laboratory)
The delegation from Dalian University of Technology included:
- Associate Professor Dr. Yongtao Lyu, School of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering
- Associate Professor Dr. Xuesong Fu, School of Materials Science and Engineering
- Two undergraduate students from Dalian University of Technology
The visit aimed to explore opportunities for developing academic collaboration between the two universities, particularly in joint research, knowledge and personnel exchange, and the establishment of collaborative networks in engineering and related disciplines. During the meeting, researchers from both universities presented and exchanged information on their research achievements, areas of expertise, and ongoing projects. The discussions sought to identify potential opportunities for developing joint research initiatives and further advancing shared knowledge.
In the afternoon, the Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted a laboratory visit for the delegation. Associate Professor Dr. Yuttana Mona led the visit and presented research on energy conversion and electrodes for energy storage systems, or “Energy Conversion and Energy Storage Electrodes.”
On July 22, 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Thoranis Deethayat, a faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, accompanied the delegation on a visit to the Hariphunchai Research Institute in Lamphun Province. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience in renewable energy, as well as to learn about the institute’s ongoing research and approaches to the practical application of energy technologies.
In addition, the Faculty of Engineering, Chiang Mai University, served as a bridge connecting Dalian University of Technology with other units within Chiang Mai University. The delegation visited and exchanged research information with the Biomedical Engineering Institute and the Faculty of Science, both of which possess outstanding research capabilities and expertise with strong potential for future interdisciplinary research collaboration.
This visit marks another important step in strengthening the collaborative network between Chiang Mai University and Dalian University of Technology. It is expected to lead to meaningful knowledge exchange, the development of joint research projects, and greater academic opportunities for faculty members, researchers, and students from both institutions.
